AUSTRAC cancels, suspends or refuses renewal of 45 crypto and remittance registrations

Sep 8, 2026 · REGULATION

Australia’s financial intelligence agency AUSTRAC said it cancelled, suspended or refused to renew 45 remittance and virtual asset service provider registrations over the past year. CEO Brendan Thomas said businesses whose registrations were cancelled can no longer operate, and that some associated individuals were referred to Australian and overseas law enforcement or regulators.

Grounds cited across the year-long actions included lack of capacity to begin or continue trading, dormant or inactive operators, insolvency, inadequate or incorrect registration, failures to notify material changes, and significant money-laundering or terrorism-financing risk. AUSTRAC did not publish a full public list of all 45 entities or a clean split between crypto and remittance in the coverage reviewed.

The regulator highlighted BA Digital Ventures Pty Ltd, trading as GetCoins. AUSTRAC cancelled that virtual asset registration on June 4, 2026 after customer complaints and work with the National Anti-Scam Centre. AUSTRAC said GetCoins was allegedly exploited by organised cryptocurrency investment scams, and that the cancellation helped disrupt that activity. Reports citing AUSTRAC did not state a customer recovery amount or a criminal finding against the provider.

Related recent steps include a three-month suspension of Cryptolink Pty Ltd’s registration from August 9, 2026, requiring 96 crypto ATMs offline, and an investigation into Western Union. Secondary outlets including Cointelegraph, Crypto Times and Crypto Briefing reported the year-end tally from AUSTRAC’s September 7 update; a primary AUSTRAC media page was not independently retrieved in this run.
