Bitcoin rallied more than 5% during US trading on Sep 3, reclaiming $80,000 and reaching about $81,000, near the highs of last month. The driver: a suspected Bank of Japan intervention to support the yen.
USD/JPY fell from 158.5 on Wednesday to 155.4, down about 2.5% in 24 hours. The move dragged the US Dollar Index (DXY) down to 99. Polymarket odds for a BOJ rate hold collapsed from 12% to 1%, with about a 98% probability priced in for a 25 basis point BOJ rate hike at the Sep 18 meeting.
Analysts are divided on the impact. Some frame the intervention as liquidity-positive. Others warn of a possible carry-trade unwind. This does not repeat this week's published items on Iran/oil weakness, Coinbase Canada derivatives, or the Wyoming Chainlink stablecoin law.
