Bitcoin (BTC) crossed $64,000 on Aug 17 after the Monday Wall Street open, up more than 2% day-over-day and rebounding from its Sunday weekly close. A live cross-check put BTC near $64,100.
The move came as US equities slipped. The agreed 60-day US-Iran ceasefire was set to expire, and the US president threatened military action against Oman over a dispute about reopening the Strait of Hormuz. The S&P 500 fell about 0.5% from its Thursday all-time high.
Safe-haven demand rose. Gold gained about 1% to a daily high near $4,427 per ounce.
Across crypto, 24-hour liquidations totaled roughly $180 million, according to CoinGlass.
