Tether's first full KPMG audit confirms $6.8B reserve surplus, firm does not publish document

Aug 15, 2026 · MACRO

Tether announced on August 13 that KPMG US completed the first full independent financial-statement audit of Tether International S.A. de C.V., covering the year ended December 31, 2025. KPMG issued an unqualified (clean) opinion, according to Tether's public statement.

The audited financial statements report that reserves exceeded liabilities by $6.814 billion, confirming the quarterly attestation reports Tether has published since 2021. Tether did not release the audit document itself — only the announcement and a summary.

This is the first Big Four audit of Tether after years of quarterly attestations from smaller firms. Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino confirmed to The Block that the audit covered all of Tether's financials, including the USDT stablecoin issuance. Sources: The Block, Coin360, Tether.io (Aug 13-14, 2026).
