Thailand SEC proposes retail access to regulated overseas crypto derivatives

Sep 1, 2026 · MACRO

Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission has proposed letting intermediaries facilitate retail access to digital asset derivatives traded overseas. A consultation published September 1, 2026 said eligible products must resemble the crypto derivatives already traded domestically, matching their underlying assets, maturity, leverage and settlement and trading on a centrally cleared exchange supervised by a regulator in specified international groups. Products that do not meet those conditions could be offered only to institutional investors. The SEC formally named crypto and digital tokens as permissible derivative underlyings in a notification dated March 5, and it is discussing contract specifications with the Thailand Futures Exchange. The proposal remains a consultation; nog final rule has been issued.
